Cappadocia

The region was formed 60 million years ago, when soft layers of lava and ash pulverized from Erciyes, Mount Hasan and Mount Güllü were corroded by rain and wind. People living in the region have named these unique formations 'fairy chimneys'.

Cappadocia has a unique beauty where nature and history unite. Throughout history, mankind has used the fairy chimneys as shelters, carving out houses and temples. The footprints of thousands of years of civilizations to the present can be seen.

Human settlement dates back to the Paleolithic era. Once the lands of the Hittites, it later became one of the most important centers of Christianity. The houses and chapels carved out of the rocks turned the region into a giant shelter for Christians who escaped fighting with pagans.

Cappadocia was a kingdom, founded after Alexander the Great's death and it's name means 'the land of the beautiful horses' in Persian. Kızılırmak being the end point of valleys in the region, Uçhisar Castle is like an eye watching the long valleys and fairy chimneys of Cappadocia. Haymana region spans along Nevşehir, Kırşehir, Niğde, Aksaray and Kayseri cities.
